As most of you know already,
we still need about $6500.00 for this trip
which lasts through September 26.
Last Tuesday (8/15), we held an educational forum hosted by PFLAG
Modesto, CA. It is not typical for the Outreach Team to be
treated to dinner before a presentation but Cathy and Dean Jennison
provided a wonderful dinner for us which was greatly appreciated. With
our budget constraints we rarely eat anything other than cheap fast food.
It was also announced that the chapter had decided to donate $1000.00 to
HeartStrong. This is the single largest donation to HeartStrong from
any
PFLAG chapter in the ten year history of our work. It is also the
second
largest donation to HeartStrong from any organization.
It was such an encouragement to receive this donation from Modesto
PFLAG. Their commitment to support the work of HeartStrong was both
encouraging and energizing.
In addition to that, the PFLAG chapter in Ukiah, CA (about two hours north
of San Francisco) also made a fantastic $200.00 donation at our
education
forum held there last Monday (8/14). Again, such support is so helpful to us.
Many times in our work, it is easy to get discouraged since we have never
even raised one year's budget over the ten years of doing this, but when
loving, caring folks like the ones from the Modesto and Ukiah PFLAG
chapters provide support as they did, it really does encourage us.
So, those two donations as well as other donations from folks attending
the programs helped raise $1500.00 more to deplete the amount we need for
this entire trip. So now, we just need to raise $5,000.00 to cover
expenses etc for the next five weeks of this outreach trip.
